VIGO CO., Ind. (WTHI) - A string of burglaries located on the south end of town led police to a large drug bust.
The Vigo County Sheriff's Department created an eight day operation in an attempt to cut back on crime.
Detective Derek Fell, with the Vigo County Sheriff's Department lead officers in the operation.
Over a course of two weeks, police went out a total of eight days flooding the south end of town.
Det. Fell says, "When we have those increases in crime we like to get out and get on the street and see what we can find." "Our goal is to come across these people, locate them, find them, gain information from them and hopefully make some arrests before it's all said and done."
News 10 and a team of police hit the streets for two days. The first night the team struck out but Det. Fell says that happens.
"Of course you want good results everyday. You want to make a positive impact but unfortunately, the nature of the beast you just can't always get that done," said Fell.
But by the second night the tables turned.
Police found 4 ounces of marijuana and a scale from inside an apartment located on the south end of Terre Haute which led them to an even bigger bust out of Clay County.
Police arrested Jason Brink and Alison Shuler for having more than 160 mature fully grown pot plants with a value of $700 to $1,000 per plant.
Det. Fell says, "There's times we go on one call thinking were going to deal with something and we end up making an arrest on something completely different."
The Vigo County Sheriff's Department wrapped up a two week operation with a total of sixteen arrests and $100,000 in marijuana.
The eight day operation was spread out between two weeks but News 10 was asked by police to with-hold their information for almost a month due to a trail of incoming leads.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department also helped in the arrests of Jason Brink and Alison Shuler.
