Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common problem in the medical community. In today's Health Watch, we'll look at the cause for carpal tunnel syndrome and some possible solutions to this problem.
Carpal tunnel is increased pressure on the median nerve, which comes to the hand through the wrist through the carpal tunnel. The tunnel itself is made of bone from the back of the hand and ligament that attaches itself to the C-shaped bones and makes the tunnel. Common causes these days, in our society, in this day and age, is excessive use of the fingers. For example, people who use computers a lot or people that use the factory line, where they use their hand repetitively at work.
"The major signs at first are tingling and numbness of the fingers. And then, if it progresses, it becomes more persistent. And then, you would have difficulty sleeping at night because the tingling and numbness will wake you up when you are sound asleep. And then, if you leave it the way it is, basically, you would make the muscle of the hand weaker and so your grasp and your pinching strength will become much less than before."
"Recovery time after the operation, for full recovery, is about 6 weeks. But the patient can use his hand immediately after the operation, for example, to write, or eat with it or gentle use, he can do it immediately after. "
"Call Regional Hospital and they would refer the patient to me, so that I can examine and decide what is the best treatment for him."
