WTHI History WTHI-TV is a CBS affiliate serving Western Indiana and Eastern Illinois from its studio in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana. Established by the legendary Anton "Tony" Hulman, Jr., WTHI-TV took to the air July 22, 1954. WTHI-TV has been the news leader in the Wabash Valley. We were first on the air, first with film, first with videotape, first with live capability, first with a computerized newsroom, first with digital news gathering equipment, first with satellite uplink, first with live, local Doppler radar and first as the local news choice. This tradition of leadership is one we're proud of and speaks volumes about the quality and dedication of our employees. WTHI-TV has been the stepping stone for many distinguished journalists, including former CBS newsman Phil Jones, former CNN anchor David Goodnow, The Weather Channel's Cheryl Lemke, legendary Indianapolis newsman Howard Caldwell, as well as entertainer/actor Jerry VanDyke. Community involvement is an everyday issue with WTHI-TV. Our position of leadership continues with the outstanding support we give to local United Way agencies, schools, churches, businesses and our own event participation, such as "Share Your Thanksgiving" and the Riley Children's Hospital "Children's Miracle Network Telethon." WTHI-TV has been committed to broadcast excellence from the beginning and continues with the best in programming from the CBS television network, the top programs in syndication and a local news organization that has dominated the competition. In an effort to focus their efforts more on motorsports, the Hulman family sold WTHI-TV and it's sister radio stations to Emmis Communications in 1999. Emmis owned and operated WTHI-TV for six years before selling the station in November of 2005 to LIN TV Corporation. LIN TV Corp. (NYSE: TVL) delivers quality television, digital media and online news, community stories and entertainment through 29 owned and/or operated television stations and websites. The Companys reach includes 17 cities located primarily in the top 100 markets, servicing 9.25% of U.S. television households. LIN TV has and continues to identify and implement innovative business strategies, including being an early adopter of digital television, in order to provide superior viewing quality to our customers. Financial information and overviews of our stations are available at http://www.lintv.com.
