Certified image consultant Sola Adelowo shares her tips on mixing shorts into your summer wardrobe.
Shorts come in all shapes, sizes and colors. It can be difficult to navigate all the options in regard to body type. You don't have to resign yourself to an elastic waist or suffer in the hot weather. The secret is in understanding your body type and proportions.
These are your general guidelines on how to choose shorts that flatter.
Petite and lean legs:
Look for short shorts. Choose options that give leg coverage but allow for appropriateness. Structured fabric that's cut close to the body will also help to elongate legs.
Tall with long legs or athletic:
Look for longer inseam. Consider a mid-length style to show just the right amount of skin. High contrast colors and prints will since prints can add the illusion of curves. Add a belt to create a great waist.
Hourglass and fuller thighs:
Look for A-line shorts. Choose options made with a flexible cotton-spandex-blend fabric to make your legs appear longer and leaner. Knee-length shorts will minimize attention to the thighs.
Look for Bermuda style or mid-length shorts. The longer inseam will offer the buttocks and upper thighs a slimmer appearance.
Go longer--not shorter! To keep attention at your face and to maintain a professional decorum, choose shorts that are knee length and made with more flexible fabrics.
