WEBSTER, N.Y. - Four firefighters were shot while on scene of a house fire outside of Rochester in upstate New York, according to WROC-TV. Two of the firefighters have died and two firefighters are in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
AP reports a police chief says one or more shooters fired shots at fire crews.
The shooting took place early Monday morning, while crews responded to a blaze on Lake Road, in Webster, NY. WROC has confirmed that first responders were called to the fire at 5:30 a.m. Monday, Christmas Eve.
Mercy Flight and SWAT teams are on the scene, along with a large police presence. The streets in the area are closed, and crews are not battling the blaze because the suspect is not in custody. WROC says the fire has spread to two other homes, and one home is collapsing.
