WHITE COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - A White County crash in which an Amtrak passenger train hit a truck sent one man to the hospital this morning.
The crash took place at a crossing on County Road 200 West near Monon, Ind. Police said the site is a two track railroad crossing with no warning lights or cross arms.
White County Sheriff's Deputy James Bolen says John Wilson, who was driving a tree trimming service truck, was thrown from the vehicle after the collision.
Bolen said Wilson was unconscious but breathing, and was taken to White County Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Wilson was later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where he is listed in critical condition.
The Amtrak train came to a stop more than a mile north of the crash scene.
Passengers were on board at the time of the crash. Bolen said a freight locomotive was used to pull the Amtrak train back to Monon. Bolen said one passenger was taken off the train in handcuffs for an outstanding arrest warrant adn the rest of the passengers were offloaded in Monon and bussed to their destinations.
Two train passengers complained of back pain and were taken off the train for treatment at the scene.
The train, which made a stop in Lafayette, was headed from New York to Chicago.
An accident re-construction crew is on the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
