CARROLL COUNTY, Ind. (WLFI) - The Carroll County Sheriff's Department said there has been a fatal accident involving a school bus just south of Delphi.

Police said the accident happened near the Indiana Packers Plant on State Road 421 and 100 North in Carroll County.

Investigators have confirmed that the accident was weather-related.

Police said the driver of a sedan, 40-year-old Kasey Schnepp of Burlington, was heading south out of Delphi on US 421 when he lost control of his vehicle and slammed, broadside, into the front of the bus.

The driver of the sedan was pronounced dead at the scene. Crews had to cut the doors off the car to remove the body from the vehicle.

Carroll County Sheriff Tony Burns said when the call came in, US 421 was shut down.

"The first person that responded was actually a state highway worker, so it got closed off pretty quick," said Burns.

The children on the school bus and the driver, Tracey Bradshaw, were safely evacuated.

Contrary to initial reports, there were 28 students on the bus at the time of the crash, 11 of whom were transported to Lafayette area hospitals with minor injuries. Bradshaw was also transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The remaining students were transferred to another bus and taken to class. School counselors were on hand for students if they needed them.

Ralph Walker, the Delphi Community Schools Superintendent, said that the worst injury involving a student was a bloody nose.
