LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) - An accident shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 in between State Road 26 and State Road 25.

State Police said a snow plow hit 44-year-old Alan Raymond Kielb of Hammond, who was walking south in the southbound lane a little after 9:00 p.m. Monday night.

Kielb was found under the truck. Police said he was breathing, but unresponsive at the scene. Kielb was taken to Clarian-Arnett Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police said Kielb died as a result of multiple traumatic injuries.

Police are not sure why Kielb was walking on the interstate. They do not believe the man came from a stranded or disabled vehicle. Police said passing motorists reported the man's presence to police just moments before the crash occured.

Snow was falling in the area at the time of the crash, leading to reduced visibility.

The driver of the snowplow, 27-year-old Tristan Martin of Indianapolis, suffered from head and neck pain. He was transported to Clarian Arnett Hospital for treatment.

Police are still investigating the accident. They said they have followed several leads, trying to locate family members, but their efforts have been unsuccessful thus far. Police are requesting help from the community in finding Kielb's family. If you can help contact the family, call the coroner's office at (765) 420-7607.
