CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Wyoming is one of the top states when it comes to the percentage of residents who sign up to become organ donors.

Nearly 60 percent of Wyoming adults had registered as organ donors through the end of 2011.

Wyoming recently was among 10 states recognized by the Health Resources and Services Administration for its high rate of organ donors.

Also, the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper was recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for its high rate of successful organ recovery from deceased donors.

Andrea Smith of Donor Alliance tells the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that the high donor rate in the state is a testament to the willingness of its residents to help out their neighbors.
