TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Sometimes ghosts are not seen, but only heard.
Such has been the case at the Toledo Lucas County Public Library. Jean Poole, an assistant manager/cataloger has worked at the library for over 20 years and has had many experiences with what she calls "The Voice."
Before the library's renovation, she says there have been times when she has been working at her desk when suddenly she would hear a fairly soft, vaguely familiar-sounding, feminine voice call out her name as if to get her attention. When she would look up, there would be no one there. Her first thought was "Oh, well, I'm imaging this!" but then she would hear it again, or other times days, weeks or months later.
Poole says others at the library could hear "The Voice," but not everyone. "I think most of the people who heard it were more willing to accept the fact that there are things out there that we don't understand."
When Poole and her department changed locations, she says she and her co-workers wondered if "The Voice" would follow them, but it did not. Poole then asked the new occupants of her former location if they have heard "The Voice," but they have not heard it either.
"We never had any ideas, we could never figure out, why it was there, if it was a hang-over from the old high school that was here, or if it just sort of drifted in." says Poole.
When asked if she missed "The Voice," Poole just smiled and says "Yeah, you know, actually, I do kind of miss 'The Voice.'"
