Kevin Orpurt, a native of Peru, Indiana, has been weather director for the WTHI stations since 1985.

His passion for weather was first awakened by his Grandmother, who taught him to forecast by the signs of nature when he was 6 years old. He learned the scientific methods of forecasting at Vincennes University and Indiana State University.

Kevin has been awarded the American Meteorological Society's Seal of Approval for his work in both television and radio.

He is the author of a daily newspaper feature, Kevin's Weather, which is published by newspapers in Indiana and Illinois.

When not watching the sky, Kevin enjoys reading and listening to music. Religion, history, mythology and psychology are his favorite subjects for reading.

He is convinced that weather has been a significant influence on human events throughout history.

Kevin has one daughter named Christine.
