Farmers want a steady rain

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The soybeans in Jeff Koehler's field are beginning to wither under this summer's heat and dry conditions and that means this year's yields probably won't meet expectations.

"Well, it's definitely gonna cut the yield because we can see the effects of it right now. The crop needs rain. It needs more than we've been getting," said Koehler.

Farmers from all over the area would probably agree there's one thing they could sure use right now.

"If we could get some general soaking rain … that would stabilize it. We've already had some rain but rain would stabilize the crops."

Until the rains come, Farmers like Koehler will keep their eyes to the sky and keep one thing in mind.

"My Dad said ‘it's a great life if you don't weaken,’" said Koehler laughing.
