TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Kevin Orpurt attended the first High School Ag Expo today at Ivy Tech. Kevin states from a wheelbarrow, “The First Ag Expo is full of fun and games, and a great way for kids to learn about ag. So let’s go!”
Fun and learning were combined to teach more than 175 juniors and seniors from across the Wabash Valley about agriculture. Billed as the High School Ag Expo, the day was more than fun and games.
John Rosene, Program Chair of Agriculture at Ivy Tech, explains, ”This is an ag expo where we invited High School kids from seven different counties to come to Ivy Tech and see what types of technology programs that we have available here, including agriculture.”
There were displays on beekeeping, South Putnam had a display on aqua culture and Ivy Tech produced hands-on experience in hydraulics.
The students agreed it was a productive day.
Hannah Kocker and Charity Betts from Linton Stockton agree, “We learned working together in teams and more about agriculture. Went to their greenhouse and saw what they were growing in there. Lots of bees. When they collect from flowers, the honey colors are different colors.
Organizers agree the High School Expo was a success and plan to make it an annual event.
