TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - As part of Severe Weather Preparedness week, folks are practicing tornado safety on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service in Indiana broadcasted a practice tornado warning around 10:15 am Wednesday morning.

The drill was an opportunity for students at school and folks at work to find a safe place in case a tornado were to hit.

Students at Terre Town Elementary School understand that practicing the tornado drill will keep them safe.

They were instructed to go to a safe zone in the school then covered their necks for protection.

"It's very important. That way you know what to do whenever there is a real tornado. And you know exactly where you will be safe so you don't get hurt," 5th grader Rita Sinclair said.

Another test tornado siren will sound around Indiana at about 7:30 Wednesday Evening so you can practice tornado safety at home.
