TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Golden Arrows jumped out to a big first quarter lead and never looked back as they beat Marshall 61-42.
Sullivan started the game out on a 22-0 run and held Marshall to no points in the first quarter, which was the first time a team had ever gone scoreless in a Wabash Valley Classic game.
Marshall came out stronger in the second quarter and out played the Golden Arrows 15-8 but they still had a 30-15 deficit to Sullivan at the half.
The Lions cut the Golden Arrows lead down to 10 points in the fourth quarter but a Taylor Maurer technical foul killed the rally and Marshall never recovered.
Coming into the game Sullivan's Rhett Smith needed 15 points to break the school's career scoring record set by Joey Davidson in 1999 (1,274) but he ended with only 12 points.
Sullivan's James Lisman finished with 18 points, 16 of which he scored in the first half and Kaleb Pirtle finished with 11.
The Lions were led by Jacob Duncan with 12 points and Thomas Sisson added 11.
Marshall will play the loser of the Terre Haute North/West Vigo game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
