Snowfall ahead of NCAA championship

DETROIT, Mich. (WOOD) - Ford Field was washed under a sea of white early on the morning of the Men's NCAA Championship game.

The snow started falling about 10 p.m. Sunday. Flakes mixed with rain covered the streets of Detroit.

The weather is not what NCAA officials were hoping for, with 6 to 10 inches of snow expected.

Bill Ryan is the Executive Director for the NCAA, in charge of all the activities outside of the gameplay on the floor of Ford Field. Ryan is also a West Michigan resident, calling Cascade home.

"We figured the weather might be cool, snow could be a longshot," he said Sunday afternoon, "but we really didn't plan for a snowstorm."

The Michigan State Spartans battle the North Carolina Tar Heels for the NCAA Championship Monday at 9:21 p.m.
