TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Thursday night Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South were voted out of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference. The 2013-2014 athletic season will the last for the Braves and Patriots in the MIC. North and South have competed in the MIC since 1997-1998, which is the biggest and best conference in the state.
Vigo County Superintendent Danny Tanoos told Sports 10 he is "disappointed." Tanoos also said he has had no luck finding a new athletic conference for Terre Haute North and Terre Haute South athletics.
Lawrence Central and Pike have been accepted into the MIC and will replace North and South.
The official news release is below:
The principals of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference met on Thursday, November 8th at a regularly scheduled meeting. During the business portion of the meeting, a motion passed removing the membership of Terre Haute North High School and Terre Haute South High School from the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference. Additionally, Lawrence Central High School and Pike High School were admitted for membership into the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference. These changes will take place fully in the 2014-2015 school year. The schools of the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference value the competition and relationships enjoyed with Terre Haute North High School and Terre Haute South High School. Both schools are excellent institutions of education. We welcome a new era in the conference with our new member schools and the continued excellence of competition and academic achievement in the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference.
