ROBINSON, Ill. (WTHI) - Fans in Robinson turned out to send their basketball team to the Final Four.
"Good luck to all the Robinson boys," said classmate Ashley Akins. "I hope you have a great game Friday and Saturday,"
"Wish everybody luck, and just remember the whole team's out there," said classmate Taylor Tylka. "No matter what happens, we're gonna be proud of you. Go Maroons!"
It's not just a big game for the players and students, this trip marks Maroon basketball history. Robinson hasn't been to a Final Four since 1916.
"Everyone coming out, driving three, four hours to come watch us play," said player Meyers Leonard. "I really think with all the excitement that they're bringing, we're playing better."
"It's just an amazing thing for our basketball program and our school and our community," said head coach Bob Coffman. "We had 1,000 tickets, and I think they're all gone."
The whole town is pulling for this team.
"We'd like to wish the Robinson Maroons good luck," said Robinson resident Lori Goble. "The whole town is proud of you,"
"I was born and raised here, so I'm very proud," said resident Barbara Legg. "I just wish them luck."
Robinson plays Chicago Hale Friday night at 8:15 p.m. CT.
The championship game, as well as the third and fourth place game, is Saturday.
