INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Colts President Bill Polian took the podium around 5 p.m. Friday
to face the media only days after he made some blunt comments
following the team's Super Bowl loss to the New Orleans Saints.
Polian spent most of his opening statements insisting that
the Super Bowl experience is behind the team.
"The 2009 season is in the books. What we did last year does not count, next year is a brand new season," said Polian.
The Colts president said the team is concentrating on the present and future.
"Focus on the task at hand, the 2010 season. If you're a professional, you know what happens in this game is here and now," he said.
Polian acknowledged that the team is still analyzing the Super Bowl, trying to make corrections.
"It's over now, there's nothing we can do about it...you try to learn from your mistakes and move on. It's in the past," he said.
Polian thanked the fans that, “stuck with the team through a difficult period. We're very grateful to them.”
"We have great fans who support us through thick and thin," he added.
Polian remarked on quarterback Peyton Manning's Super Bowl performance, saying, "I thought Peyton Manning’s performance was great."
Polian kept his comments positive on Friday. However, on his weekly radio show Tuesday, Polian called out the offensive line and the special teams.
Polian said, "The offensive line, by our standards, did not have a good game. They were outplayed by the Saints' defensive line, I thought, pretty decisively."
In another part of the show he said, "Our special teams, in
terms of handling the ball, both in the return game and on the
onside kick were outplayed by the Saints. There in lay the result.
