INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Safety Bob Sanders is on track to make his season debut Sunday in St. Louis.

"I feel better than I felt in a long time. I definitely feel excited about it and hopefully I'll get in there and get some plays this week,"" said number 21 before practice Wednesday.

The 2007 NFL Defensive Player of the Year is expected to take part in most team workouts this week, wearing a bulky brace on his surgically repaired knee. The knee kept him out nearly half of last season, all of training camp, and every game in '09.

His fellow defenders defined what Sanders on-field presence means.

"It's gonna be big. We're all excited to have him back, he's a family member, part of this team, so seeing number 21 running back there is going to be a comfortable feeling,"" said defensive end Dwight Freeney.

"Gotta be smart about the decisions we make right now. When it's time, I'll be ready, " added Sanders.

It will be a coaches decision later this week. And as the Colts try to prevent taking winless Saint Louis for granted, winless Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher finds himself in hot water after his Peyton Manning jersey joke backfired with the fans.

‘It's a guarantee the crowd got a good laugh out of it. I'm sure coach Dungy did too, so it's pretty funny to me, I don't think he should be apologizing over it."

Fisher, who introduced Tony Dungy at a Nashville charity fundraiser thinks it went over well, would do it again, and can't help it if anyone was offended. The current Colts coach says Titan fans should give Fisher a break.

"I think he was just adding a little levity to a situation that people took the wrong way. The guy is as good as they come in what he does,"" said Jim Caldwell, but don’t expect him to don a Tom Brady jersey anytime soon.
