TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - UPDATE: Indiana State Director Of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced this evening (Nov. 30) that Trent Miles has submitted his resignation from the position of head football coach to take over the football program at Georgia State.
"Trent Miles has been a terrific member of the Sycamore family for the past 5 years," Prettyman said in announcing the resignation. "He has been a dynamic leader and role model for the young men in our program. He has recruited quality young men that represent our University well on the field of competition, in the classroom and in the community. It has been my pleasure to work side by side with Trent and our outstanding coaching staff as the program has developed into the nationally recognized program that it is today. With the support of the University Administration and specifically President Bradley, we have been able to build Sycamore Football into something special. I am happy for Trent and the opportunity that he has been presented at Georgia State. I am confident that he will go there and do an outstanding job."
Miles leaves Indiana State with a 20-36 overall record, including a mark of 14-26 in Missouri Valley Football Conference contests. In the last three seasons, the Sycamore football program went 19-14 as they put together three consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1967-69. ISU has led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the number of all-league selections each of the last two years.
In 2010, he was honored as Missouri Valley Football Conference Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Award and the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year honor.
"I have already started the recruitment process for the new Head Coach at Indiana State University," Prettyman said. "I have an outstanding short list, and I am confident that several more terrific candidates will surface over the course of the next few days. This search will be my top priority and I am committed to filling this position with a quality person that will continue the current path of excellence in addition to bringing some new and exciting approaches to our program. Sycamore Football is alive and well. It will be fun for us all to be a part of moving this program forward to even bigger and better success."
