WICHITA, Kan. (WTHI) - The Wichita State Shockers remained perfect within the Missouri Valley Conference on Sunday afternoon, riding a six-point halftime lead to a 53-46 victory over the Indiana State women’s basketball team inside Charles Koch Arena.

Indiana State falls to 12-8 overall and 4-5 in the MVC after the first half of the league schedule while Wichita State improves to 15-6 on the season and 9-0 within the conference.

The Sycamores took their lone lead of the game at the 11:49 mark of the first half, as freshman Kasey Johnson picked up a steal on the defensive end to allow junior Anna Munn to sink a three-pointer in transition and give Indiana State a 7-6 advantage.

Wichita State closed the opening half with an 8-3 run over the final four minutes of the period, taking a 26-20 lead into the locker room. Munn and senior Taylor Whitley each posted six points in the opening half, but the Shockers dominated the glass to lead 18-9 in rebounds at the break.

The Shockers pushed their lead to 11 points after eight minutes of action in the second half, taking a 38-27 lead with 12:02 to play following a pair of free throws from Michaela Dapprich. The Sycamores responded with a 10-2 run over the next three minutes, closing to within two points, at 39-37, with 8:40 to play on a trey by Munn.

That would be as close as Indiana State could get, however, as the Shockers ended the first half of MVC action with a perfect record following their 53-46 victory at home.

Munn led three Sycamores in double figures with 14 points on Sunday while also leading the team with four steals. Whitley (13 points, 7-for-7 FT) and Mahan (10 points, nine rebounds) also went into double-digits for Indiana State. Dapprich led all scorers, totaling 16 points off the Wichita State bench.

Indiana State returns to Hulman Center next weekend, hosting Creighton on Friday night and Drake on Sunday afternoon.
