Boeglin gone, Weddle leaving ISU women's program

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Sports 10 has learned that, pending Clay County Community School board approval in July, Indiana State University women's basketball Associate Head Coach Clint Weddle will be the next boys basketball coach at Northview High School. Also, ISU women's basketball assistant Melanie Boeglin has already left the Lady Sycamores program, Boeglin is getting out of coaching.

Weddle just completed his fifth season wtih the ISU. He has served as recruiting coordinator and works primarily with the Lady Sycamores post players. Before ISU, Weddle was a assistant coach at the University of Indianapolis and the head coach for the Oakland City women's basketball team.

Weddle is a Terre Haute North Vigo High School graduate. He played basketball for the Patriots and was a member of the schools last semi-state team back in 1999.

Weddle will replace Ernie Maesch at Northview who stepped down in March. Last season, the Knights were 8-14.

As for Melanie Boeglin, she just completed her fouth year with the Lady Sycamores. She had one of the best playing careers in ISU history. Her senior season, she guided the Lady Sycamores to a school-record 27 wins. Three of her four seasons at ISU, she guided the program to three MVC tournament championship games, twice winning the regular-season conference title. Boeglin finished her career as the schools third all-time leading scorer and she holds the school and MVC record for steals and assist.

Mel was the first in MVC history to earn Jackie Stiles MVC Player of the Year and Prairie Farms MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year Awards in the same season. Her junior year, Boeglin earned MVC Defensive Player of the Year. Boeglin was the first ISU women's player to earn MVC All-Defensive and All-MVC honors in each of her four years.

In 2006, Boeglin was the first ISU women's basketball player to receive an invite to attend the WNBA Pre-Draft Camp.

Boeglin was a standout at Terre Haute South Vigo High School. In 2002, she guided the Lady Braves to the Class 4A State Basketball Championship.
