PUTNAME COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - One Wabash Valley man is going green in his golden years.

Look what's popped up outside Russellville, Indiana, a wind turbine.
This is one way Frank Durham re-lives his childhood of growing up on a farm.
"We had a real nice big windmill and I've been up to the top of it and I've always been fascinated with windmills," said Frank Durham.

Now at the age of 93 he's already a pilot, attorney, and published author, he decided to put a wind turbine on his property.

"I'm what you might call a workaholic," said Durham.

Frank thought if they could do it back then to pump water why not do the same thing today to generate electricity?

"The power that comes from the wind is stored in these batteries," said Durham.
And frank says they can store the energy for up to two days.

Inside is where the power is converted but outside are boxes on the property and on a day that's not as windy all Frank has to do is flip a switch and then he's back on the local power grid.

Of Frank's many adventure's this is not one where he will see a return on his investment.

"I'm not thinking about the future on this. What it doesn't do for me, maybe it will do for my children," said Durham.

But it's one idea Frank says it can help free us from our dependence on oil.

"We're at the mercy of a lot of foreign people for just oil," said Durham.

And at the very least it gives Frank a little something extra to do.
