TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Distracted driving kills thousands each year, which is why Ivy Tech Community College hosted Thursday's Distracted Driving event.
Students were able to sit in a simulator and see how texting and driving effects their focus.
This was the first time the college hosted this event, and they hope students will hear the message.
"Sometimes we don't really realize what we're doing when we're texting and the effects that it's having on our ability to react to things going on in traffic," Nina Storey from Ivy Tech Community College said.
Beginning July 1st, texting and driving is now illegal in Indiana.
