VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - Indiana State Police detectives said no one has seen or heard from Charles Raymond Chumley Jr., 30, since last Tuesday Dec. 8. Investigators admit it's a peculiar case.

Chumley's wife, Jennifer, said she dropped him off near his parents home, expecting to pick him up fifteen minutes later. But it's been eight days, and she's still waiting.

"I just want him to come home," said Jennifer. "That's all I want, all I'm praying for Christmas"

Jennifer said she let her husband Charles out of the car in the late hours of Dec. 8. The location on N. Miami Gardens Street is a half mile from his parent's home on Davis Avenue.

"He just got out of the vehicle," said Jennifer. "He handed me his wallet, said he was going to check into something and finish what he started. That was the last time I seen him."

She said he had gotten into a fight with another person earlier that day.

She drove up and down the road for more than an hour after the request fifteen minutes, before finally going back to their home in Brazil. Jennifer and Charles met last December and were married in August, after a whirlwind romance.

"He's brought so much inspiration to my life and changed my life so much," said Jennifer. "I just need him to come home, that's all."

An Indiana State Police helicopter searched from the sky Tuesday. The Chumleys have searched too, from foot and horseback. So far, nothing has been found.

"Several things about the case, some I'm not at liberty to discuss, seem to be peculiar in this case," said Sgt. Joe Watts with Indiana State Police. "But we are leaving no stone unturned. We are open-minded through the investigation and we're going to go whatever direction the evidence points us. But yes, it is peculiar."

Jennifer wonders how she can make her 8-year-old son understand why his step-dad isn't at home.

"I'm just sick, sick to my stomach, wondering when is he going to walk through that door," said Jennifer.

Jennifer said her husband was wearing brown coveralls and a blue flannel jacket when he got out of the car. He's 5-foot-11 and about 185 pounds.

Investigators said they have received some tips from various people.
