TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Last Tuesday, Jamalyn Peigh Williamson was visiting an orphanage just outside Port-au-Prince, when devastation hit.
"They saw us coming and they start yelling our names and they were running out to see us when the earthquake hit," Peigh Williamson said. "And there's a wall that goes around the orphanage, and that fell over almost like dominoes. The children were shot away from the house."
The home where she was staying and the orphanage she was visiting were both demolished. Two Haitians in her group were killed.
"The first thing I thought of was the children," Peigh Williamson said. "I was so scared that the roof was going to collapse, and I knew that would be catastrophic."
Her family waited for days to hear from her, unsure if she was alive or dead.
But Jamalyn made it home Sunday, though her thoughts remain with those in Haiti.
Jamalyn said the country desperately needs humanitarian aid. And once they're able, she said they will need volunteers help rebuild.
