TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Hollywood, step aside. Terre Haute might be rolling out the red carpet next summer.
More than 200 people gathered to see a screening of "Rock Slyde" Saturday afternoon. It's a detective comedy spoof produced by Terre Haute South graduate Milan Chakraborty starring Patrick Warburton, Andy Dick and a few other recognizable names.
"To see on the marquee of the Indiana Theater, 'Rock Slyde,' I almost got choked up," said Chakraborty. "It really means a lot."
The screening cost $8 with proceeds benefitting the Sgt. Dale Griffin Memorial fund. Chakraborty was best friend's with Dale's older brother Blake, and said the Griffin's were like his second family.
"When I came back for the memorial, I was just amazed how much the city came out as a force to respect what dale gave, the ultimate sacrifice," said Chakraborty.
But Chakraborty has bigger dreams. He hopes to come back to Terre Haute next summer to film a movie in the Wabash Valley.
"It would be a huge boost," said Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett. "They got to go out to eat, they have to stay in a hotel, you get the advantage of all that."
Chakraborty hopes to return in 2010 to raise more than $1 million from local investors. As to the plot, he said he has a script in mind. He called it a feel-good story, sort of a cross between the movies "Radio" and "The Blind Side."
