TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Two students have been formally charged with bringing a gun to school.
The Terre Haute South Vigo High School students were arrested on Monday. Police said one of the students got on a school bus with a .22 caliber single-shot rifle.
When the student got to school, the gun was put in the other student's car.
Now, they are being both being charged with possession of a firearm on school property and dangerous possession of a fire arm. Also, one of the students is charged with a class B misdemeanor for a knife with a blade that opens automatically.
"After obtaining all the facts, it became obvious that under the law, we had to file the charges at the juvenile center. We're not going to be able to file these as adult charges," Vigo County Prosecutor Terry Modesitt said.
The Vigo County School Board is separately pursuing punishment for the students. They are in the process of trying to expel them for a year.
