GRAND HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) - Two students are recovering from minor injuries following a bizarre incident on a school bus in Robinson Township involving a dog.
The Grand Haven Area Public Schools Superintendent Keith Konarska says a dog followed its owner onto a school bus Wednesday morning. The bus driver tried to remove the dog from the bus, and that is when the animal nipped at two students and scratched them.
Konarska says the students' injuries are minor and superficial.
School officials contacted each child's parent and a letter was sent home explaining the incident.
24 Hour News 8 contacted one of the students' parents, Michelle Tuttle. She said she is concerned if the dog is not up to date on its shots.
Tuttle adds the dog has a history of biting and is out regularly.
She said her son's injuries are minor, and she took him to a hospital as a precaution. He is now on antibiotics. She adds she will press charges against the dog's owner.
24 Hour News 8 talked to that owner Wednesday night. He said he has owned the dog -- mostly a Blue Heeler with a little bit of pit bull named Clifford -- for five years since it was a pup. He said he turned the dog over to animal control earlier in the day.
