NEW YORK - It sounds like a techie's dream come true. The Pomegranate Phone's Web site touts its many unique features, including a coffee maker, movie projector and a built-in shaver.
But when people click on the "release date" link on the phone's site, they see this message: "Someday you'll be able to get everything you want in one device. Today you can get everything you want in one place."
And then the site redirects you to Nova Scotia's tourism site.
The clever $300,000 ad campaign was devised by Nova Scotia as a way to generate interest virally for the tiny Canadian province.
Stacey Jones-Oxner who worked on the "Come to Life" campaign wrote in an e-mail to the Los Angeles Times , "If you consider the amount of people we have reached and compare it to the cost of say a full-page ad in ONE of our target cities (approx $60,000) it is a solid investment."
Video versions of the online ad have been placed on YouTube, with one video showing over 45,000 views .
