TERRE HAUTe, Ind. (WTHI) - A proposed bill could keep jobs in Indiana.

State Rep. Clyde Kersey has drafted new legislation for 2010. In proposed House Bill 1002 , also called the "Indiana worker preference," it would require contractors and sub-contractors working on public projects to have 80 percent of their workforce from Indiana.

The proposed bill has already been read by the financial committee and will go to the floor of the house once session starts in January.

"It does two things. One: It employs hoosiers. And two: It will keep those wages that those Hoosiers make in the state of Indiana," Kersey said.
