TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The VFW memorial began Wednesday around 11 a.m., as veterans said goodbye to one of their own.
It was a beautiful tribute to Sgt. Dale Griffin, with more than 100 Patriot Guard riders holding American flags, as well as hundreds of decorated veterans.
Several veterans spoke and prayed for Sgt. Griffin, as well as for Sgt. Kyle Childress. About a thousand veterans and community members showed up to pay their final respects to Sgt. Griffin, as it was the last stop in the processional.
It was an emotional farewell, as some people just started singing "The Star Spangled Banner," while the Griffin family left the service.
One veterans even said in the 14 years he's been doing memorial services, he had never seen anything like this.
