TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The procession for Sgt. Dale Griffin left a ceremony at the VFW Wednesday morning, to make the trip to the funeral location.

The route went along Wabash Ave., then turned south onto 7th St. and ended at Terre Haute South Vigo High School.

More than 100 Patriot Guard Riders and VFW motorcyclists cleared the way. Five Terre Haute Police motorcyclists surrounded the hearse, carrying the flag-draped casket.

Many people came out of their homes and businesses to pay their respects in a final farewell to a fallen soldier, waving flags and carrying signs of support and thanks.

A few people stayed downtown after the annual Veterans Day procession, braving the cold to see and honor the hearse carrying Griffin's body, just one more time. One person even commented the parade was not over until the hearse left downtown to go to the funeral at the high school.

Sgt. Dale Griffin's hearse was followed by three limousines, carrying immediate family members.
