TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - This year, the VFW decided to make this year's Veterans Day parade a procession instead, in honor of Sgt. Dale Griffin.

The procession stepped off a little before 10 a.m. Wednesday with an honor guard, followed by the hearse which carrying the flag-draped casket of Sgt. Griffin.

Lots of people lined Wabash Ave. between 4th and 12th Streets. They were ready to pay their respects and say thank you to Sgt. Griffin and other military members who have served our country.

"Any time a man fights and dies for his country... It needs to be noted to everybody. Everybody needs to know this man's been out there. He's fought. He's died. He's given you the rights you're got and I think a lot of times today that people forget that," Mike Cazee with American Legion Riders Post 139 said.

Even though it was a little chilly and windy out Wednesday morning, there was still a large number to really celebrate the true meaning of Veterans Day.
