TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Runners took to the streets to kick off a Saint Patrick's Day celebration.

It was the Irish Dash, a 1K and 5K run-walk that started at the big shamrock at the corner of Poplar and 19th Street in Terre Haute.

Runners of all ages took part in the event, dressed in many shades including a lot of green.

Many members of the community came out to support.

"Oh I think it's wonderful. What do they say? Everyone's Irish on this day. It's a great event. It gets a little bit better every day and people have a good time," honorary parade mayor John Newlin said.

All proceeds go toward a class trip for the Saint Patrick's School Class of 2011.
