TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute has received a major grant for energy efficiency.
The U.S. Department of Energy recently awarded the city over $617,000.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Some of Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett's plans include replacing current traffic signal lights with LED fixtures. He also hopes to add actuated systems as needed.
These changes would allow reduced energy costs and also better fuel efficiency for drivers where actuators are installed.
The city has 18 months to obligate the funding and 36 months to spend the funding.
