TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The 2010 legislative session convenes Jan. 5.

Previously, Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels passed property tax caps. Now, he wants to make the caps permanent by adding an amendment to the state constitution.

Those against the amendment say temporary caps need to be evaluated before they become permanent.

"There's been about a 25 to 30 percent reduction in property taxes in the last two years," Daniels said. "People would have the security of that ceiling as long as they own their house."

If the legislature passes the property tax cap amendment, voters must decide in the November elections whether or not it becomes law.
