WASHINGTON, Ind. (WTHI) - A soggy spring construction season has made beating the summer heat tougher in one southern Indiana community.

Washington, Ind. still plans to open a new one point $2 million pool and splash park this summer. The project is leaving the community high and dry for now.

Construction crews have lost 24 days of work to rain and wet weather this spring, which has pushed back any hopes for an early opening.

"We're doing as much as we can to get it open, but mother nature is one thing we cannot control," Washington Parks Superintendent Dan Neely said

"Usually, you get wet spells and they slack off at some time, but this time is seems to keep lingering," Jeremy Adler of Tabler Crane Construction said.

City officials had hoped to open the new pool by July 10. Right now, there is no projected date for opening except later this summer.
