VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) - After 40 years of business, the Superior Essex Plant south of Vincennes is letting the last of its workers go.

At one time, the Superior Essex plant south of Vincennes employed 275 people. After a year of winding down operations, the last 50 production workers are being let go and only a handful are left to wrap up the operation.

Surprisingly, the closure has had little impact on the job situation in the county.

"Since the lay off has come in stages, I think most of those workers have been re-absorbed into the workforce," Gary Gentry with the Knox County Development Corporation said.

Officials with the Work One Office in Vincennes have already begun working with the last of Essex employees on benefit and retraining options.
