VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) - Investigators are trying to sort out the details of a suspicious fire at a barn in Knox County.
Police said a firefighter discovered the remains of a person in a car in the debris of the building.
The fire happened early Wednesday morning at a barn near the home of Debbie Bond.
"Units arrived, extinguished the blaze and during that time frame discovered there was a body within the vehicle," Knox County Sheriff Mike Morris said.
Authorities do not have much information and are conducting a death investigation to find the answers.
"At this point it has to be taken care of as a crime scene. That has to be eliminated first and the investigation can continue at that point," Morris said.
Several agencies are involved in the investigation. Inside the Bicknell Fire Department, Indiana State Police, state fire marshals and Knox County fire investigators searched for clues to the death and the fire.
"In a situation like this, it is tough to determine due to the heat of the fire and just the circumstances surrounding it," Morris said.
Authorities said they have not made a positive identification on the body they recovered. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
