TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Two weeks ago, Sheriff Jon Marvel says an inmate busted out one of the windows and tried smuggling in drugs. That forced him to lock down that particular area.

He says the inmate used a mop handle, that was accidentally left in the cell, to break the glass.

Maintenance workers welded a hard metal screen over the entire length of the window to keep this from happening again.

"We don't think they'll be able to break it with a mop handle, but we're going to see that mop handles aren't left in there any more, other than a short period of time for them to clean the floor," Jon Marvel, Vigo County Sheriff said.

It will take several weeks before workers can replace the actual window.
