VIGO COUNTY, Ind (WTHI) - Police are looking for a suspect in a carjacking that started in Ohio.

Officials said the suspect approached the victim with a gun around 11 a.m. Wednesday in Columbus, Ohio at a Wendy's restaurant, demanding she drive him to Chicago.

Police said the car started to overheat in the west bound lanes of Interstate 70 in Vigo County. Police said the suspect told the victim to get off the interstate.

According to police, the 21-year-old woman told authorities the suspect said to pull over on Old Fort Harrison Road in Vigo County. The suspect fled on foot and the woman ran to the home of Brenda Taylor.

"My question to her was where did you come from, who are you, what do you want and again she asked me to call the police, which I did," Taylor said.

Authorities issued a red alert at 6:00 p.m. in north eastern Vigo County, near the Seelyville area. Police said they are searching the area for the suspect who may be carrying a gun.

The suspect is described as white male wearing a white V-neck T-shirt, faded blue jeans and flip flops. He has has dyed black hair that is combed down over his forehead. Police said to consider him armed and dangerous.

Officials said they have no reason to believe the victim is lying.

"Statements that she made, the way she acted to our officers she was hysterical, so at this point and time, it probably is a true story. And as of right now that's the way we have to handle it," Vigo County Sheriff's Department Lieutenant Mike Anderson said.

The victim was taken to Union Hospital and is being treated by victim assistance. No injuries were reported.
