Update: Weekend crash victim identified

TERRE HAUTE, ind. (WTHI) - It happened around 11pm Sunday on Seabury St. and S. 11th St.

Police say Russell Searing, 21 of Universal, Ind., died at the scene.

Officers say the driver of the car, 34-year-old Shane Mikolajczyk, was driving down Seabury when he lost control and struck a tree. The driver's blood-alcohol level was slightly under the legal limit.

On Monday, friends of the victim setup a memorial at the crash scene and say R.J. was like family.

"It shows we actually love the guy. We actually care for him. I don't know if we're the only ones that's going to do it, hopefully not," Zach Goldner, victim's friend said.

"I've known him for quite a few years. He was like a brother to me too," Steven Drenghes, victim's friend said.

"It's hard to believe. It really is," he added.

Police say neither men were wearing their seatbelts.
