DANA, Ind. (WTHI) - The child drowned Saturday afternoon in Dana, Ind. after being left unsupervised while playing in a backyard.
Police got the call Saturday around 12:30 p.m. Three-year-old James Androusky was found unresponsive in an in-ground pool at a home in Dana.
Vermillion County Sheriff Robert Spence said the boy was playing in the home's backyard with his 4-year-old brother when he fell in. Reportedly, they were unsupervised at the time.
The boy's mother, Tammra Stevens Androusky, and her boyfriend, Matthew Hollingsworth, travelled from South Carolina with her three young sons.
Originally from the Dana area, they came to visit family and were staying at a relative's home.
"They said that they had checked on the boys periodically, but ended up finding the little one," said Spence. "The little one apparently was left alone long enough in the backyard to wander over into the pool."
The boy was taken to Union Hospital in Clinton. He was then air-lifted to Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, where, on Sunday, he was taken off life support.
Spence said he does not expect charges to be filed in the child's death.
