TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Union Hospital and West Central Community Hospital now have an advanced ICU care program at the each of the hospitals.

Among the improvements, a new in-room camera and video technology gives physicians and on site caregivers an extra set of eyes and ears to monitor patients.

"We do think that it brings us a little better level of care relative to raising the bar and the standard of care to our patients here so we think it will improve quality, we think it will improve safety, and it will also allow us to make better use of the beds we have," medical director Dr. Ronald Leach said.

The program was put in place on March 24. It offers the 34 bed intensive care unit tools like real-time video feeds and 24-hour monitoring of patient data.

Leach said this is not a replacement for bedside care, but allows the hospital to monitor patients around the clock with the latest technology.
