TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - On Tuesday, people dropped off unused televisions at the Indiana State University Recycle Center.
Inside TVs are precious metals and hazardous materials.
If the TVs are thrown in the trash and taken to the landfill, those metals that are worth money would be wasted. Plus, the hazardous materials in the TV’s could potentially leech into groundwater.
"There are a lot of concerned people out there that don't want the TV’s to go into the landfill. That is one of our biggest things is that it doesn't go to the landfill," Indiana State University custodial services Cherie Lewis said.
Future TV Tuesdays are scheduled for Jan. 5 and Apr. 6.
