TERRE HAUTE, Ind (WTHI) - Local students get dirty and learn about gardening at the same time.

A group of Chauncey Rose students spent part of Friday at Saint Mary Of the Woods College.

They planted a bed of perennials with some vegetables. They also planted some salsa beds with a variety of peppers onions and tomatoes.

The students learned about soil layers and how plants should be positioned.

"They learn that in nature there is no waste that waste becomes food for something else," said Department of Education Instructor Sister Terri Boland.

The mission was to show these students along with their teachers how they can make these gardens anywhere, and how gardening is educational.
