TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - About a half dozen or more railroad tracks will be removed by the end of this year in Terre Haute.
Getting from place to place can be rough, especially if you get railroaded.
"You come through here at 4:00 and you get railroaded. At 6:00 you're railroaded and usually they sit here on this track that means you can't get home, you can't get to work," Jill Coooper said, while she sat stuck, waiting for a train.
After some tough negotiations, county and city officials reached an agreement with railroad companies, Indiana Railroad and CSX, to relocate six city crossings.
"It's calculated that about 45,000 vehicle crossings a day will be eliminated. So you'll see a drastic increase in our rail safety," Vigo County Commissioner David Decker said.
Vigo County will eliminate two additional crossings. One of them is this first set of tracks by Springhill and McDaniel Roads.
