CLINTON, Ind. (WTHI) - The Clinton Police Department will be awarded $134,000 in stimulus funds to cover salary and benefits for one officer for three years.

Chief Justin Salisbury said he applied for funds for four officers, but was happy to get any stimulus money. Funding has been tight for the department for some time.

In December, we reported Clinton officers were using simulated targets for practice, saving money on ammunition costs. In a department of just eight officers, Salisbury said a six-figure grant will go a long way to keep folks safer.

"When your budget is approximately $468,000 a year to operate an eight-man police department, $134,000 and change is a significant chunk of that," said Salisbury.
